The first couple of chapters in the novel “Hoop Dreams” by Ben Joravsky is a true story about two young boys from Chicago who hope to become professional basketball players one day. The book begins telling of Arthur Agee one of the main characters and how he was one of the best on the playground courts and how he was recruited by a scout. Then it switches to William the other main character and tells of his basketball talents. Arthur and William become best friends and end up attending the same schools. So far the book is pretty good. I like how the author describes the basketball playing scenes, it really leaves you imagining the game they played. It is full of imagery. Overall the first chapters were good and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I found a theme in the book to be work hard if you want to succeed. The boys travel far out just to play basketball for the best school. “If you want to make it to the next level you’ll have to work harder than you’ve ever worked.” said Isaiah Thomas, a hall of fame basketball player lecturing the boys at a summer basketball camp. The boys acumen in basketball is outstanding , I do believe they will make it. They have all the attributes of a basketball player: height, skills, talent etc; I believe this novel will be a good one.

Il Postino Themes

The movie “Il Postino” was to me a very good movie. I believe the messages expressed in the film were meaningful, and it was fairly entertaining. The plot and story was pretty good and well put together. Overall I was pleased with the film and I would give it a 7 out 10, with 10 being the best.

There were several themes expressed in this film. There were themes about poetry, love, and life/social class.

I gathered a theme  that  expressed poetry comes from the soul, like how when the main character Mario asked Pablo how to write a poem and Pablo’s only answer was to write it because it comes from you.

Some themes that expressed love were about friendship, romance, patriotism, and family. The theme about patriotism was expressed when Mario wrote a poem about how beautiful Italy was, and he expressed his communistic views. Friendship theme was expressed throughout the movie as Mario and Pablo grew to love each other as friends through everything they did. And it was evident that Pablo indeed loved Mario back because he was genuinely sad when he heard the news of Mario’s death.  The romance theme was expressed when Mario was trying to get with Beatrice his future wife. He expressed his love for her through poems, odes etc.

These themes and other aspects of the film all together made the movie “Il Postino” a great one.

He is very adept in his home run abilities;

He Is like a giant hittng a rock everytime he swings the bat

Everytime he is at bat he vehemently swings and they chalk up another home run for number 22

This is why he is my favorite player

Mr. Jason Heyward..

My first love

I love the way she sings,

I love the way she makes me want to dance

I love the way she makes me think about her all day

I love how she can understand all of my emotions

I love how she can make me feel a certain way whenever I hear her talk

I love how she understands and relates to me

They call her Music.

I have an abasing story from about a year ago when I almost lost my life,

The beast they call “Pool” tried to swallow me

I dove into its mouth not thinking about not being able to come back out..

I remember losing my breath, and then consciousness as I tried to kick my way out

Then its unclear what happened next.. I was rescued by my cousin is all I know

But this lesson I take with me everywhere I go

Even if I want to keep cool… I stay AWAY from the pool

.

These shoes that I love

Oh so cool shoes I wear them intrepidly

because they have so much panache

they make me feel warm inside everytime I look at them

they turn heads everywhere I walk…

They are like magnets to the eyes
I love my NIKE’s.

Fragments 84, 45, 82, 36, 38, 37, 40, 80, 50, 55, and 42 combined.

O Queens of Song, descend from your home.
From the golden halls of Olumpus on high!
O shell divine, now, now become
Voiceful, to utter mine heart's wild cry!
O Calliope, vouchsafe thine aid
Unto one whom the Muse of Love hath betrayed!
Ah me, I know not what to do
Who am wildered all, in a strait betwixt two!
I cry from a homeless heart storm-tossed
As a child for her mother, a young child lost.
Yet not after all-unattainable things
Do I strain, nor I hope on passion's wings
To soar to the heavens' empyreal blue.
But oh, I yearn, how I yearn to slake
My thirst where Love's feet brush the dew!
For he who the strength of the mighty can break,
He whose bitter sweetness no tongue may tell,
The dragon whose onslaught none may quell,
Love — mine whole being doth Love's breath shake.

Ah, sleep I cannot: soft-cushioned bed
Wooes never my wearied frame to sleep;
No pillow brings rest to my throbbing head.
From my couch, as one in a nightmare, I leap.
Ever Eros is tossing to and fro
My spirit, as when great storm-winds blow
O'er a tempest-tormented mountain-steep,
And down on its groaning oak-woods sweep;
So groaneth my spirit, love-scourged so.
